Teen Titans Go! To the Movies – All Must See

Rating (4 out of 5)

Summary:  Southwest Airlines currently has movies for free on the plan, and I took advantage of Southwest’s recent offering to watch “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies”.  I am surprised the stewards didn’t request me to stop laughing out loud so much.  “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies” is a fantastic little film which appeals to both young and old and will definitely make you smirk.

It is genuinely a shame “Ralph Breaks The Internet” is nominated for a Golden Globe over this film.

Plot:  Robin and his friends (Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven) want to be real superheroes and have their own movie.  Robin scorns the rest of the team for fandom, but they must reunite to save the planet.

What I Liked:  The movie is terribly funny.  The film starts with a musical number where the Teen Titans sing about their powers to the bad guy sets the tone well for the entire film.  The bad guy, of course, ransacks all the buildings while the Titans perform their song.   I laughed out loud; I couldn’t contain the laughs.

Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance.  I know it is a DC Universe and not Marvel so why was he there?  That is what makes it so funny, and think it is awesome that both DC and Marvel would both do this.  The also a few other jokes mixing universes which made the movie very entertaining.

The humor of the film is splattered all over the place with references to everyone and everything.  The variability of the humor is a pro and con to the movie.  While I laughed at most of the jokes, some of the humor is a little crude.  Admittedly I laughed at crude jokes.  However, I know those jokes, aren’t for everyone.

What I Didn’t Like:  Even though the movie is only an hour and 24 minutes there is a couple of sections slowing the pace of Titans.  That, plus a fairly predictable plot and the basic crude jokes, prevent Teen Titans Go! from being my favorite animated film of the year.
