How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World – A Great Kids Film

Rating (3 out of 5)

Summary: The 3rd installment in the How To Train Your Dragon (HTTYD) series offers the same quality animation and story as the previous two movies. While not providing much content for adults, “Hidden World” is sure to please the younger members of your family.

Plot: Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) leads the Vikings with the help of his dragon Toothless. Toothless is being hunted by Grimmel (F. Murray Abraham) and Hiccup must find a hidden dragon world to save Toothless and the other dragons.

Detail: Toothless meets a girl night fury and falls in love. The antics of Toothless to gain her affection is well done, and sure to have children giggling. How similar the dragons act to household pets is a true testament to the animators. Kudos.

Like the Other HTTYD films, Hiccup is forced to learn a valuable lesson to resolve their problems. The key learning for today; the leader of the village can lean on his girlfriend Astrid (America Ferrera) and the rest of the crew for help and doesn’t have to lead alone. I do appreciate the simple plot line and clear moral tale, especially for a children’s movie.

Ruffnut (Kirsten Wiig) and Tuffnut (Justin Rupple) had a larger role this time around. Both characters add much-needed humor at key parts of the film. Ruffnut’s incessant talking, while imprisoned, force smile to my face.
