Stranger Things (Season 3) – Same Basic Story, but Good Ride

Rating (3.5 out of 5)

Darn, Scott beat me to writing this review. He is such a better writer than I am. After reading his, my feels like a caveman speaking.

Stranger Things good. You watch.”

On to the review.

Summary: The plot is the same only everyone is a little older. The aging is very noticeable. “Stranger Things” is quick and to the point. The story promptly moves through eight (8) quick and concise episodes. If you liked the first two “Stranger Things” shows, then this is a must watch for you.

Surprisingly my wife watched all eight episodes with me, and she hasn’t watched the first two seasons. She enjoyed the season, which is lofty praise indeed.

Plot: The Mind Flayer is back and it is up to El (Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends to save the world again.

Detail: The show remains focused on the core characters and their relationships. What was really nice, was how their relationships changed as the characters matured. The boys chase girls now and forsake Dungeons and Dragons. Being the dork that I am, I remember that very change. Even the relationship between the adults morphed a which was refreshing.

The pace is fantastic. Just as you think the show is about to slow the pace shoots up. One minute two of the kids are kissing, then the mind flayer is exploding rats. The contrast kept you interested in the characters while you prepare for the next science fiction/actions scene. In particular, I am sure everyone will enjoy the duet with the “The NeverEnding Story”, which was required to get an important passcode.

I also like the fact main characters do perish. It was a little sad to watch favorite characters die.

On the negative side, it was a little convenient for the Russians to be in the city, and not a single individual notices. Also, they entered the Russian base really easily. Seriously, if the Russians had setup a secret base in the United States, you think they would have at least one guard on duty at all the times.

Finally, one of my pet peeves is the obnoxious bossy child. Lucas’s sister is needed for the secret base break-in, but she is such a brat about it all. When she wasn’t a brat, she was a great character.
