Knives Out – A Good Evening Out

Rating (3.5 out of 5)

Summary: “KnIves Out” is good clean fund murder mystery that will please most everyone. I laughed constantly throughout the film. The story was executed superbly, but a few moments dragged. The movie ran at 2 hours and 10 minutes, which was 20 minutes too long. All said, “Knives Out” was enjoyable movie to see with the whole family.

Plot: The patriarch, Harlan (Christopher Plummer) dies, and the police and special investigator Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) must identify the murder with the assistance of Harlans nurse Marta (Ana de Armas).

Detail: There were plenty of laughs to be had in this film. The family is a mess and that provides much of the humor. The running joke of the family members changing the name of the country they think Marta is from was perfect.

The story was well laid out and you wanted to see how the story played out. The story did run a bit long. One scene I didn’t care for was the car chase. It was out of place with the rest of the movie, and didn’t add notable to the story.

The movie at one point touches on politics. Again, this was little bit out of context with the rest of the film. The sequence touched on a debate in the family about immigrants. Not sure if it was supposed to be political or funny or both. Either way I didn’t care for it.

The actors delivered stellar performances and elevated the film. It was great to see a large ensemble cast work for a change. I enjoyed Chris Evans in a different role, as the bad boy. Christopher Plummer still holds the screen at the ripe old age of 90.
