Summary: A lackluster movie that failed to grab me. Comparing this to “Ratatouille,” which drew me into the world of food with the smells, the sounds, and the combinations. I saw glimpses of this when Jazz was involved, but it failed to build. Then “Soul” bounces all over the place, trying to find 22’s spark.
There are a couple of good jokes buried in the movie, where I laughed out loud. Some of the moments of jazz were heartful, but these were few and far between. Some scenes would have been great turning points in the movie, like at the barbershop, but they never developed more.
In summary, this isn’t the worst movie, but it didn’t offer a lot.
Plot: Joe (Jamie Foxx), an aspiring jazz musician dies, and has to get his soul back into his body to get his big break. If he helps new soul 22 (Tina Fey) find their spark, maybe he can make it in time.
